Back-feed happens when electricity from a generator flows backward into the power lines. That's a serious danger for our line crews. A line they think is dead could actually be energized by a generator, and that can be fatal. GenerLink takes that risk off the table, so you get power during an outage without putting anyone else at risk.

Once you purchase a GenerLink from Itasca-Mantrap, we'll schedule an appointment for one of our technicians to install it at your meter. The appointment runs about 60 minutes, giving you time to ask questions along the way. Once it's installed, you're ready to go, just plug your generator into GenerLink and you're powered up in minutes.

With GenerLink, you can run virtually any appliance in your home, up to your generator's capacity, just not everything at once. That's the real advantage over extension cords: things like your furnace, water heater and hardwired lights are wired directly through your home's breaker panel, so there's no way to power them with an extension cord alone. Every appliance has two power needs: running watts and starting watts. Running watts are what it takes to keep something going. Starting watts are the extra jolt it needs for a second or two when it first kicks on, often about three times higher. Your furnace motor is a good example, it needs that quick burst of extra power to start, then settles down to its normal running watts. When sizing your generator, make sure it can handle both, not just the running load.

To use a refrigerator/freezer you need 2,250 watts (750 W x 3 starting factor) to start it and 750 W to keep it running. Refer to the Appliance Usage Guide for wattage information.

GenerLink connects to your generator's 120/240-volt AC receptacle using a GenerLok power cord, rated for a minimum of 30 amps. Adaptors are available to match your cord to your generator's receptacle, since generators come with different receptacle types.
